Holbox roads undergo level and compacting revamp after bouts of heavy rain

Holbox, Q.R. — Work has begun to level the unpaved island streets of Holbox after heavy rains. Municipal Public Services began the project earlier this week that will see potholes filled and the island’s dirt roads properly compacted.

Roads were left in bad condition after a month of rain and the passing of Hurricane Beryl.
Manuel Escamilla García, island Mayor said he was confident that the current weather conditions would hold long enough so the project could be finished without delays.

He pointed out that the level and compacting project is being carried out with the support of local businesses including tourism service providers who had expressed concern about the poor image the badly damaged roads gave.

Escamilla García said that more than half of the island’s dirt roads were reduced to mud trials due to all the rain.

“We hope that the good weather will allow us to move forward with the work since more than 50 percent of the streets were practically destroyed by the heavy and constant rains that occurred weeks ago,” he explained.
