Harbor Master issues lost at sea alert for vessel traveling Key West to Isla Mujeres with Cozumel captains

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Isla Mujeres Harbor Master’s Office has issued an alert for two missing boatmen. The men set sail from Key West, Florida August 20. The men were scheduled to arrive at Isla Mujeres August 22. They have not been heard from.

According to the Harbor Master, Captains Jorge Aragón and Ricardo Argaez are traveling in a 34-foot Regal with two Yamaha engines. A search operation was launched August 23 to locate the two captains, but so far their vessel has not been found.

Maritime authorities reported the disappearance of boat Chuleta with Polish flag and registration number POLOO1J4R, which is considered lost in national waters between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

The Office says without precise coordinates, it is difficult to deploy an official search operation.

Both men, Jorge Aragón, Captain of the 3G and Ricardo Argaez Jiménez, Captain of the Reki, are from the island of Cozumel. On Saturday afternoon, friends and colleagues conducted an overflight of the area in a private plane but did not locate the missing vessel.

“Hello everyone in the nautical world. We would like your support in spreading the word and trying to locate a 34-foot Regal boat that left Key West headed for Isla Mujeres. It’s 6:30 p.m. on August 23rd and we haven’t heard from them,” family members shared on social media.

The Harbor Master has issued an official alert for the missing men and their boat. Authorities are asking vessels in transit to remain vigilant and report any sightings that may help locate them.
