Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama says an additional 48 million has been spent on state security. On Tuesday, Lezama announced an investment of more than 48 million pesos for the provision of tools.
The technical tools, she reported, include lapel cameras, portable terminals and electronic tablets. The investment also includes uniforms and vehicles, all of which, was distributed between the state’s 11 municipalities.
To strengthen citizen security of the 11 municipalities, Governor Lezama delivered uniforms, vehicles and electronic tablets for the municipal police, with a value of more than 48.3 million pesos.
This delivery, with the aim of contributing to the reduction of violence and crime rates, was carried out through the Executive Secretariat of the State System of Citizen Security (SESESC), headed by Adrián Martínez Ortega.
A total of 18,294 uniform components, 50 lapel cameras, 24 portable terminals and 133 electronic tablets were delivered, as well as 24 vehicles. All 11 municipal mayors were at the Tuesday event.
“We know perfectly well that building peace is a great challenge, but I am convinced that if we work hand in hand and do things well, in a great alliance with the people, federal corporations, and organized civil society, it is possible to achieve it,” said the Governor.
She added that although Quintana Roo has the best paid police, they also need to act with integrity and have the proper equipment to deal with the scourge of insecurity.
“And the government, for its part – because peacebuilding is the responsibility of all society – works to address the causes of violence, with social programs, empowering women, keeping youth away from self-destructive behavior, fighting corruption,” she said.
The State Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez said the Governor is committed to addressing insecurity from its origins, from the causes, to fight corruption.
“This investment of 48 million pesos in new and decent patrol cars, uniforms, tablets, and lapel cameras is part of the construction of peace so that they continue to take a step forward in this titanic task,” she said.
More than 46.5 million pesos for the acquisition of the equipment came from the Fund for Contributions for Public Security as well as the Fund for the Strengthening of Public Security Institutions, which allocated just over 1.8 million for a total of around 48.3 million pesos.
The new police vehicles went to Benito Juarez, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad, Bacalar and Cozumel.
