Governor oversees progress on new 1.5 billion peso general hospital

Chetumal, Q.R. — State officials paid a visit to the construction site of a new 1.5 billion pesos general hospital. The new hospital is being built in Chetumal and once finished, will provide services to 270,000 people.

On Monday, Governor Mara Lezama and Health Secretary Flavio Carlos Rosado conducted a supervisory visit of the construction site of the new Chetumal General Hospital.

Construction is underway for the 25,000 square meter hospital that will offer 120 beds.

“This hospital will become a reality and will have 120 beds, three operating rooms, two delivery rooms, and a gynecological surgery suite,” reported Governor Lezama.

“In addition, it will have an emergency area and intensive care units for adults, children and newborns and also be equipped with X-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, hemodynamics, MRI, and clinical laboratory services, and much more,” she said.

During the tour, she emphasized that this project is a long-held aspiration, and today it can be affirmed that under her government it will become a reality. Mara Lezama stressed that this is a project long demanded by the population, which for years, was not completed due to malpractice and corruption.

The new General Hospital is being built on a site exceeding 25,000 square meters and represents an investment of over 1.5 billion pesos.

“This is the people’s money that for many years was lost to corruption. Today, the situation is different thanks to the support of the federal government, then headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and now by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and through the Director General of IMSS-Bienestar, Alejandro Svarch Pérez,” she explained.
