Mexico City, Mexico — The Government of Mexico has allocated $150 million dollars to countries in Central America and the Caribbean. The allocated funds will be used to address the causes of the migration phenomenon, reported President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
In his Friday morning press conference, he indicated that the Sowing Life and Youth Building the Future programs are successfully applied in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and Cuba where they offer job opportunities in their places of origin. This way, he said, people decide to stay in their countries.
“When we work in the communities, in the towns of Central America or in other countries, we have testimonies that with the support we send, with the Sembrando Vida (Sowing Life) program, the Youth Building the Future program, people stay, young people stay,” he noted.
The President emphasized the need to invest more resources in these initiatives created by his government for the well-being of the people. In particular, López Obrador called on the United States to increase support for this purpose.
“You have to invest and not just $50 million. You need to invest is what is required. What they send in weapons to Ukraine, not that amount, but half would allow us to have a cooperation development program for Latin America and the Caribbean, that would help a lot,” he remarked.
