Government investing 29 million to replace 30 year old water system

Othón P. Blanco, Q.R. — The water and sewage system that runs along the border of the municipality of Othón P. Blanco is being replaced. Governor Mara Lezama says the lines that feed the towns of Caña Brava, Guillermo Prieto and Dos Aguadas will be renewed.

“Water is a right, not a privilege. For many years, neoliberal and elitist governments turned their backs on those who needed it most which included thousands of families in the border area, in Caña Brava, Guillermo Prieto, and Dos Aguadas, and some in total abandonment, in 21 de Mayo, Basilio, and Nuevo Paraíso,” explained Lezama.

Lezama says the current water system is more than 30 years old. The new system will not only be rehabilitated, but also expanded, she said. The project is being overseen by CAPA head Hugo Garza Sáenz.

Garza Sáenz, who heads the Comisión de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado (CAPA) announced that with federal and state contributions totaling more than 29 million pesos, they are working with cutting-edge technology and material to replace what was a cement and asbestos aqueduct with ductile iron with a useful life of more than 50 years.
