GigNet to install public high speed Wi-Fi in Tulum

Tulum, Q.R. — In two weeks, two Public High Speed Internet modules are to be installed in the town of Tulum. The new Wi-Fi modules will be the same as those already in operation at Playa Delfines and kilometer zero of the Cancun Hotel Zone.

According to Luis de Potestad Clemens, vice president of international relations and special projects at GigNet, the installation of the free Wi-Fi is part of a project promoted by the state government through the Ministry of Tourism with the company GigNet. The modules will improve connectivity for visitors and promote the development of internet services and information technologies.

“The objective is obviously to have a better quality Internet for all of Quintana Roo, but now we want to offer options so students so they can access remote classes with teachers from other countries, other parts of the world,” he said.

Clemens says the first module will be located on Highway 307, which is the main entrance to the Tulum Hotel Zone. There will be a second point, which will be at the municipal palace (city hall).

He explained that the idea of incorporating Tulum into this free internet system is due to tourist growth, the new airport and the upcoming Maya Train, although, he said, it is the Governor’s idea is to bring connectivity to all municipalities.

The new modules are expected to be installed around Tulum toward the end of February.
