Puerto Morelos, Q.R. — The central old town of Puerto Morelos will soon offer free public Internet through two Wi-Fi modules. The town has been added to the Gignet agreement that supplies the free Wi-Fi service throughout Quintana Roo.

On Monday, Puerto Morelos Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu thanked Governor Mara Lezama for her support in adding Puerto Morelos to the agreement with the Gignet company. She also thanked the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat for their support in promoting the destination’s growth.
“We are moving forward as a modern, connected and accessible municipality for all,” said Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz at the start of the public internet network project. Merari Tziu says the free Wi-Fi will be connected in the tourist area, a fundamental tool, she said, for the development and progress of the destination.
She said the new connectivity service opens up a range of opportunities for service providers such as artisans and restaurants, among others, in the sale of their products.
The Puerto Morelos public Wi-Fi project includes the installation of two public Wi-Fi modules with a coverage capacity of more than 50 linear meters. These modules will be located in Fundadores Park and the Fishermen’s Wharf. Each module will have a connection capacity of 200 simultaneous devices.

Luis de Potestad Clemens, Vice President of Institutional Relations and Special Projects at Gignet, explained that the project involves installing a dedicated 1-gigabit fiber optic link. This will require pipeline installation, interconnection access, construction of stamped floors, reintegration of the asphalt pavement and verification of hydraulic, sanitary and electrical records.

He emphasized that the commitment to the region goes beyond connectivity, as it involves connecting people in a growing destination like Puerto Morelos, thereby contributing to development.
“We are investing in the future, exploring opportunities that will shape tomorrow’s landscape,” he said.
