Chetumal, Q.R. — A man and woman wanted for the murder of a child that happened 25 years ago have been captured. The pair, wanted for the murder that happened in the state of Jalisco, were arrested in Chetumal Saturday.
Both suspects were wanted for the November 1999 beating death of a boy that took place in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. The pair, who were known by police to have moved often, settled in the Quintana Roo capital city in 2002.
According to local authorities, the pair identified as Francisco Javier “N” and Liliana Lucero “N”, “remained hidden until their recent capture.”
Police say after the 1999 murder of a boy who was beaten, stuffed into a cardboard box and tossed in a dump in the neighboring state, the pair fled to León, Guanajuato, Oaxaca and Palenque, Chiapas, before settling in Chetumal.
They were taken into custody on outstanding arrest warrants. Police “executed an arrest warrant in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco against a man and a woman for their alleged participation in acts possibly constituting the crimes of intentional qualified homicide with advantage and brutal ferocity against a minor male victim, which occurred 25 years ago,” authorities reported.
“The detainees are identified as Francisco Javier “N”, alias “El Profe” and/or “Profesor”, and Liliana Lucero “N”. The events for which they were sought occurred on November 12, 1999, in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, where the man, after arguing with the woman, beat the victim to death then wrapped him in blankets and put him in a cardboard box, which he tied with a bow.
“Later, Francisco Javier “N” took the box and boarded a bus headed to the city of Aguascalientes, where upon arrival, he walked aimlessly finding a garbage dump where he threw the victim’s body and then returned to his home where Liliana Lucero “N” was waiting for him, with whom he fled to León, Guanajuato.
“From there they moved to the state of Oaxaca and then to Palenque Chiapas, remaining there for a year. In 2002, they settled in Chetumal in the capital of Quintana Roo, where they remained hidden.”
In their statement, authorities said “this homicide was a matter of great social significance due to the brutality in the commission of the murder. Once the corresponding procedures were completed, the detainees were handed over to the authorities of the state of Aguascalientes, for their transfer and placement at the disposal of the authorities.”
