Four digital platforms authorized by Imoveqroo to operate in state

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Mobility Institute of the State of Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) says all but one digital platform has been authorized in the state. On Wednesday, Imoveqroo Director Rodrigo Alcázar Urrutia said four digital platforms have been authorized to operate legally.

Alcázar Urrutia reported Didi, InDrive, Muévete and Ola taxi, the latter belonging to the Andrés Quintana Roo taxi union, have all been approved to operate legally in the state.

He said the process to authorize more platforms is ongoing and depends on regulatory compliance by these companies. He mentioned that that there is one platform that remains in litigation.

“We are waiting for the other platform to be authorized and for the drivers of these platforms to obtain their permits,” he said referring to Uber.

According to Alcázar Urrutia, state law already allows such applications to operate legally as long as they comply with the requirements established by the Institute.

Alcázar Urrutia explained that, by law, platforms must share information in real time and submit their documentation along with an updated list of operators every three months to ensure user safety.

In addition, he mentioned that these platforms request registration as public or private, or even both authorizations. Public platforms, such as Ola, have a simpler process to register because Imoveqroo (Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo) already has complete files of the taxi drivers affiliated with the union.

He said to date, no complaints have been received about the platforms currently operating. However, in case of non-compliance with regulations, sanctions include the loss of authorization to operate in the state and the cancellation of individual licenses for drivers.
