Formal charges made in murder of four Playa del Carmen city inspectors

Playa del Carmen, Q. R. — Seven of the 10 people arrested in relation to the recent murder of four Playa del Carmen city employees have been formally charged. Over the weekend, the State Attorney General (FGE) of Quintana Roo announced the latest charges.

On Friday, two people identified as Néstor “A” and José “P”, were formally charged with homicide regarding the four city inspectors. On Saturday, the FGE announced charges against another five.

Néstor “A” and José “P” have been charged in the stabbing deaths of four Playa del Carmen city inspectors.

In their press release, the agency reported that Geovanni “L”, José “M”, Bryan “P”, Margarito “N” and Juan “V”, who were arrested on February 11, have been charged with concealment for covering up the murders that took place inside La Cueva.

All five were charged for their part in attempting to cover up the murder and evidence.

The FGE reported that all five have been charged with attempting to hide, alter, destroy or remove traces, evidence or instruments of the crime which were used to kill the four city inspectors.

All four city inspectors were stabbed to death inside the club during an inspection on the night of February 11, 2023. They were transferred to the bed of an old Municipal Transit vehicle. The bodies were found the following morning by area residents in Ejido of Playa del Carmen.

The trials for all seven are expected to begin mid-April. The FGE did not provide details on if the remaining three arrested would also be charged.
