Mexico City, Mexico — Five people in Mexico City have been arrested for their involvement in the assault of an American citizen.
Elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City along with the Secretariat of the Navy and the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection, made the arrests Tuesday on outstanding warrants.
According to a statement released by the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), the five Mexican nationals were arrested for their involvement in the assault of the unidentified American that took place on February 15. The assault victim is reported to be an American man who resides as a resident in Mexico City.
The American is reported to have used a Mexico City taxi app for transportation from the airport to his home, however, along the journey, the taxi driver was intercepted by two vehicles – a truck and a motorcycle – and the American passenger robbed.
“According to the investigations, on February 15, a person of American origin boarded an taxi via an app at Terminal 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM).
“The driver was intercepted by two people who were traveling in a truck and on a motorcycle near the Tiber River and the Interior Circuit, stripping the passenger of a Rolex and an iPhone 15 Pro Max cell phone,” the SSPC said.
Alfredo “N”, Guadalupe “N”, Joana “N”, Ximena Yunuel “N” and Esteban “N” were arrested in Mexico City this week for their involvement in the assault of a foreign citizen and also for drug-related crimes.
At the time of their arrests, state and federal agents located over 300 street bags of marijuana and cocaine. The SSPC says all five are being investigated for other similar robberies against people using taxi apps from the Mexico City airport.
