Once inside they were able to locate the dog using specialized equipment due to flames and thick smoke. Outside, the dog was given oxygen after suffering smoke inhalation.

Neighbors were woken by the intense smell of smoke early Sunday morning. Emergency 9-1-1 was notified of the first floor fire that quickly filled the home with smoke. The man and woman inside the house were able to get out, but due to flames, were forced to leave their dog behind on the second level.

As soon as firemen arrived they were notified there was a trapped pet inside. Firemen scoured the inside of the house for the animal, eventually locating the dog. While firemen extinguished the fire inside, others gave the dog oxygen outside.

The main floor of the home was completely destroyed by the fire. Aside from smoke inhalation, there were no injuries reported. In a statement, the Cancun Fire Department said “we rescued a dog during a fire on SM 90.

“Sunday morning, after receiving a report via C5, our Cancun Fire Department team immediately responded to a fire at a home located on Supermanzana 90. Upon arrival, we observed a window on fire, damaging various household items and causing radiation and smoke damage to the walls.

“During the response, the owner reported that a French Poodle was inside the home. Thanks to the use of a thermal camera, we were able to locate it on the second floor and rescue it alive. The dog showed signs of smoke inhalation, so it was immediately given oxygen on-site.

“We also treated two people with a mental breakdown, who did not require hospitalization. The fire was successfully contained and extinguished, preventing further damage and protecting the lives of those present.

“We recommend checking electrical installations and avoiding overloads in the home. Your safety and that of your family, including your pets, is paramount. Serve and Protect!”
