FGE reports over 40 arrested and nearly 500 rescued from human trafficking last year

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The State Attorney General (FGE) reports significant progress in combatting human trafficking last year. FGE head Raciel López Salazar says more than 40 people were arrested and nearly 500 rescued during 2025.

As part of the actions carried out by the State Attorney General’s Office, from January 1 to December 31, 2025, its head, Raciel López Salazar, reported that, in matters of human trafficking, 165 investigation files were opened, 43 traffickers were arrested and 488 victims were located.

Of those, 396 are Mexican and 92 are foreign, from countries such as Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, India, Peru, Belize, Brazil, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Italy and Norway, he detailed in a statement.

For this crime, authorities implemented 80 search warrants which represents an increase of 54 percent compared to 2024, when 52 were executed, In addition, authorities obtained nine sentences from Oral Trial judges with prison terms of up to 20 years.

“Regarding crimes against women, we secured the prosecution of 368 people for domestic violence, which is 51 percent more compared to the previous year, when 244 were prosecuted.

“Additionally, 314 people were arrested for sexual abuse and rape against women, girls, boys, and adolescents, all of whom were also prosecuted,” he stated.

Similarly, 43 people were arrested, 16 for femicide and 27 for attempted femicide, all of whom were formally charged. Authorities also obtained 150 convictions for crimes including sexual abuse, rape, domestic violence, vicarious violence, digital violence, femicide, attempted femicide and human trafficking.

“It is important to mention that we maintain close communication with authorities in other countries to monitor the distribution, storage, processing, production, and exchange of child pornography.

“Therefore, I am pleased to inform you that we handled nine cases of this type during 2025, which led to the arrest of eight suspects and the rescue of a minor of U.S. nationality,” stated Raciel López Salazar.
