Cancun, Q.R. — A man local authorities say has been connected to at least 14 murders has been arrested. On Monday, the State Attorney General (FGE) reported during during a press conference on the capture of Luis Alberto “N”.

Raciel López Salazar says the suspect is connected to at least 14 drug-related murders.

According to FGE head Raciel López Salazar, Luis Alberto “N”, alias “Pancho Arreola,” has been connected to at least 14 homicides committed in Cancun and the mainland area of Isla Mujeres.

López Salazar said Luis Alberto “N” was taken into custody from Gastón Alegre López Avenue in SM 243 of Cancun earlier this month.

During his arrest, a 9mm firearm was seized as well as various doses of marijuana, crystal meth and crack cocaine. Thanks to the results of the Integrated Ballistic Identification System, he has been linked to 10 ongoing investigations, López Salazar explained.

When matching the seized weapon to ballistic analysis, the system yielded matches with 10 homicide investigations and one for firearm-related injuries.

Murders connected to the sale of drugs in Cancun and Isla Mujeres have been linked to the suspect.

These incidents occurred in different parts of Cancún and the mainland area between February and October, he noted. Among the solved cases are the murders of Luis Alexander “N” and Álvaro “N”, which occurred on February 24 in the Paraíso Plus neighborhood, where the victims were attacked inside a barbershop.

Similarly, the murder of Luis Miguel “N” in the El Betel neighborhood was linked to a drug debt. Another case involves Edwin Ignacio “N” and Pedro Joaquín “N”, who died on July 31 in Superblock 244.

According to the investigation, both were at a drug sales point when they were attacked. The murder of Jesús Antonio, which occurred on August 12 in the same area was also linked to drug-related disputes.

The analysis established a link to the murder of Pablo “N”, which occurred on September 18 in the Ventura neighborhood, as well as to the murders of Johan “N” and Ángel “N”, ages 16 and 21, respectively, which took place on September 23 in the El Esfuerzo neighborhood.

Authorities say the gun seized at the time of his arrest matches 11 investigations.

State authorities indicated that the detainee allegedly coordinated the collection of drug proceeds in the border area between Cancun and Isla Mujeres and commanded a group of operatives involved in both street-level drug dealing and armed attacks.

Following his arrest, a judge ordered him to stand trial and remanded him in custody while the investigation continues.
