Cancun, Q.R. — Federal inspectors seized a load of illegally captured fish Sunday from a Cancun vessel. The seizure of approximately 350 kilos of fish was made in coordination with the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (Conapesca).

The boat was inspected at sea Sunday evening in Cancun waters north of the city. The Mexican Navy reported on the inspection and subsequent seizure after the crew were found fishing without permits.
“Naval personnel, in coordination with authorities from the Comisión Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca (Conapesca) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, seized fishing product and a vessel in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo,” the Secretaría de Marina said.

“This action took place at sea between Isla Blanca and Punta Nizuc, Quintana Roo, after a routine inspection of a small vessel engaged in fishing activities.
“The crew did not possess the required permits for legal fishing.
Therefore, naval and Conapesca personnel proceeded to seize 250 kilograms of sea bream, 100 kilograms of snapper, and the vessel, placing them at the disposal of the appropriate authorities,” they reported.
