Isla Mujeres, Q.R. –The Mexican Navy reported rescuing a stranded sailboat off the coast of Isla Mujeres Wednesday. The boat suffered engine failure and was left stranded 24 nautical miles from the island.

The rescue of the boat and its one crew was made by means of the Fifth Naval Region and the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (ENSAR).
“Naval personnel rescued a male person who was aboard the sailboat named Saba Idi, which was left without propulsion approximately 24 nautical miles (44 kilometers) northwest of Isla Mujeres.
“This action was carried out after receiving a call for help at this Naval Command indicating that the aforementioned vessel, with a crew member on board, was without propulsion in the vicinity of Isla Mujeres.
“Therefore an Interceptor Patrol of the Mexican Navy that was conducting maritime patrol was ordered to proceed to search for and locate it. Once the vessel was located, ENSAR Isla Mujeres was ordered to set sail in a MLB-type vessel with specialized personnel, who upon arriving at the meeting point, checked the crew member who was found to be in good health.

“They were safely towed to the vicinity of this Naval Command in Isla Mujeres,” the Naval agency reported.
