Extreme temperatures and lack of rain likely cause of Tulum vegetation fire

Tulum, Q.R. — A vegetation smolder that emitted thick white smoke was extinguished in Tulum. The fire was reported in a parking area of the Amansala resort Monday afternoon.

The thick smoke caught the attention of hotel staff who requested assistance from the fire department. Emergency services arrived to find a dense pile of vegetation near the flaming point.

According to available information, the fire was caused by a magnifying glass effect of dry leaves and accumulated trash that self-ignited. Extreme temperatures and a lack of rain created the necessary conditions for the fire to start on its own.

Tulum Civil Protection personnel were the first to arrive on the scene. The vegetation was scattered and fire extinguishers used to stop potential spreading. Tulum firemen finished the job of putting out the thick smolder and ensuring it would not reignite.
