Tulum, Q.R. — A man accused of demanding floor right payments from a central Tulum restaurant he used to work for has been charged. Police say Irvin Abisai “N” is being investigated for the June 25 extortion and August 25 fire of an eatery located on Tulum Avenue.
According to local authorities, Irvin Abisai “N” and three others arrived at the Tulum Avenue and Orión Street eatery in the Centro neighborhood to demand the amount of 20,000 pesos per month for floor rights.
The demand was made “under the threat that if not paid, they would burn and shoot the premises in addition to taking the lives of the employees who were there, as well as customers and the owner,” police detailed in their Monday statement.
Initial investigations by police indicate that Irvin Abisai “N” was an employee of the aforementioned business, and that he and his accomplices are part of a criminal group that generates violence.
“When the victim refused to pay the required fee, the suspect set fire to the business on August 25, damaging the palm-thatched roof and causing other damage.” Police say Irvin Abisai “N” was identified as the person who caused the fire.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant that was executed “when the subject was walking along Polar Poniente Street between Júpiter and Alfa Norte in the Centro neighborhood.”
Irvin Abisai “N” has since been charged with aggravated extortion. The judge ordered him imprisoned for two years or the duration of the judicial proceedings.
