Cancun, Q.R. — Emergency services in Cancun were sent to rescue a spider monkey that was found injured on Bonampak Avenue. The monkey was reported hit by a vehicle around 4:30 p.m.
Video surveillance through the city’s C5 activated the intervention of the Cancun fire department who were first on scene. The injured monkey was found with lacerations on its left arm and leg.
Personnel from the General Directorate of Ecology along with Municipal Transit agents cordoned off the area to protect the monkey while luring it into a transport carrier.

Ecology personnel from the Federal Attorney’s Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa) took custody of the spider monkey after it was secured. The animal was transferred to a facility for medical care.
