Cancun, Q.R. — Despite recent strong winds, Cancun beaches remain clear of sargassum due to city collection efforts. The seaweed-free beaches are the result of work by the General Directorate of Public Services of Cancun.

Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta says this year, 1,877.05 cubic meters of sargassum has been collected. She says despite the constant arrival of sargassum, all seven public beaches remain clear of the seaweed.
“Cancun thrives on tourism and our beaches are the face we show to the world. That’s why we’re not letting our guard down and are reinforcing our sargassum collection efforts every day, committed to preserving our ecosystems and keeping our city attractive,” she said.
These daily tasks include the mobilization of personnel from early in the morning, the use of specialized machinery and effective coordination between different government departments in addition to the support of concessionaires and committed citizens.
The municipal government reiterates its commitment to keeping Cancún’s beaches clean, strengthening preventive actions and responding promptly to the environmental challenges facing the Mexican Caribbean.

Peralta says to date, the city has collected seaweed from its seven public beaches. They include Playa Coral: 1,344.30 M3,Playa Delfines: 241.90 M3, Playa Marlin: 111.30 M3, Playa Chac Mool: 90.45 M3, Playa Ballenas: 45.70 M3, Playa Las Perlas: 31 M3 and Playa Del Niño: 12.40 M3.
