Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Marina personnel assisted in the medical evacuation of a cruise ship passenger Tuesday. Ship doctors reported that the male passenger has suffered a heart attack. However, when Mexican medical personnel arrived, he climbed down out of ship on his own and onto the waiting Marina vessel.

In a statement, the Marina of Mexico said personnel from the Fifth Naval Region out of Isla Mujeres met Harmony of the Seas off the coast in response to a request from the ship.
On Wednesday, the Secretaría de Marina (Semar) reported meeting cruise ship Harmony of the Seas “after the Fifth Naval Region received a call requesting assistance to urgently transfer a 65-year-old man who suffered an acute myocardial infarction.
“An MLB-type vessel from the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance (Ensar) Isla Mujeres immediately set sail with specialized rescue personnel and Naval Health personnel on board.
“Upon arriving at the emergency site, approximately five nautical miles (nine kilometers) northeast of Isla Mujeres, the medical staff proceeded to examine the tourist, who was transferred to the MLB-type vessel to be transported by sea to Puerto Juárez.
“Curiously, the man descended the cruise ship’s ladder on his own feet and at no time was it necessary to use a stretcher, as can be seen in the graphics accompanying the information,” they said in their statement.

“Paramedics from a private company were waiting, who took charge of the patient and channeled him by emergency ambulance to a local hospital in order to receive specialized medical attention,” Semar reported.
