Cancun, Q.R. — A Cuban couple were taken into custody Wednesday night after being attacked by their Mexican neighbors. Neighbors became enraged after learning a local delivery driver had been bitten by the man’s dog and he refused responsibility.
At least a dozen officers in the company of military personnel arrived at the Cuban man’s home in SM 23 after neighbors attacked his house Wednesday evening.
The large group gathered outside the house in response to a circulating social media invitation: “We invite you to visit our Cuban piñata”.

Neighbors gathered after the bitten delivery driver posted the videoed incident on line. According to the video, the Mexican delivery driver was bitten by the Cuban man’s dog. When he confronted the dog owner about being bitten, the man physically assaulted him.
Dozens of neighbors arrived at the home around 7:00 p.m. where they threw rocks, broke windows, and even attempted to drive motorcycles through a front gate.

Police arrived, some in riot gear, on Palmeras Street to break up the neighborhood street riot which lasted nearly two hours.
Before leaving, police took both the Cuban man and woman inside the house into custody.

They were transferred to the National Migration Institute (INM) office in Cancun around 9:00 p.m. under heavy police guard.
According to early information, the Cuban couple were deported from the U.S. during an immigration raid in Miami earlier this year. They rented a house and settled in central Cancun.

They were taken to the INM facilities in Cancun Wednesday night after being found living in Mexico illegally.
