Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Secretariat of the Navy acting as Coast Guard evacuated a cruise ship passenger who suffered a heart attack. The medical evacuation took place Friday night off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
Marina personnel responded after receiving a distress call from a cruise ship requesting the medical evacuation of the 72-year-old female. According to the report, the passenger was suffering from a myocardial infarction.
Authorities departed in a Defender-class vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in Isla Mujeres. Specialized rescue personnel and Naval Medical Service personnel were on board, the Navy said in their statement.
Upon arriving at the scene of the emergency, approximately 40 nautical miles (seventy-four kilometers) south of Isla Mujeres, the female cruise ship passenger was examined and medically evacuated.

She was subsequently transferred to the mainland of Puerto Juárez where a private ambulance met the boat and transported her to a Cancun hospital for specialized medical care.
