Cancun, Q.R. — Police say Mario Apolonio “N” has been officially charged with extortion of a company at the Cancun International Airport. Authorities say Mario Apolonio “N” is part of a criminal group that was attempting to extort a transportation company of 100,000 pesos.
Mario Apolonio “N” is accused of participating in the extortion of a transportation company by not only demanding payments, but for also shooting at an employee’s vehicle and home as well as making threats.
“The defendant is accused of belonging to a criminal group that extorted the victim, who owns a transportation company at Cancun International Airport,” police said.
“On May 26, 2025, one of the accomplices went to the business and threatened an employee, warning him that they must allow the operation of platform taxis who paid “protection” fees. If they did not comply, they would be abducted.
“Later, the same worker received a call demanding payment of 100,000 pesos to continue operating under threat of attacking the employees’ homes and families. Days later, three individuals visited the business, warning them that changes would be made at the airport and that they would have to comply with the new rules.
“A few days later, on June 7 of this year, members of the group attacked a vehicle belonging to one of the victim’s employees. The suspects then opened fire at a home in SM 72 of Cancun where they left a banner addressed to the victim’s employer.
“Mario Apolonio “N” went to the home of an employee of the victim in order to demand payment of the previously requested fee, reminding him of the attack on the vehicle and the banner addressed to his boss,” they reported.
The victim filed a complaint with the State Attorney General (FGE) who were successful in having charges laid against Mario Apolonio “N”. The presiding judge has ordered him to remain in preventative detention during his trial.
