Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The Quintana Roo Strategic Projects Agency (Agepro) announced work will begin to build two Maya Train charging stations. Construction for the stations is set to begin in early 2025.
According to José Alberto Alonso Ovando, head of Agepro (Agencia de Proyectos Estratégicos de Quintana Roo), one station will be located in Cancun and the other in Xul-Ha, near the Chetumal airport.
“The two large loading stations will be built in Cancun and Chetumal with complementary road infrastructure for the transit of loaded trucks, which will bring materials for the project,” he said.
Alonso says the construction of both charging stations will be done by the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) and that the Cancun station will be one of the largest of the project.
He explained that after the passenger train work is completely finished, the second phase of the project will begin, which will include infrastructure for freight transport.
In addition, repairs will be made on the federal 307 between Cancun and Chetumal due to damage suffered by the transportation of materials for the Maya Train. These repairs are necessary to ensure an adequate flow of cargo, he added.
Starting in January 2025, Agepro and the Secretariat for Sustainable Urban Territorial Development, will collaborate with Sedena and other areas of the federal government to manage the land that will be used for the route of the freight train, as well as the complementary infrastructure necessary to complete the project.
