Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The construction of the municipality’s first animal shelter is around 70 percent finished. Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says the finished project will have a reception area, an adoption room, medical area, cages and grooming area.
Outside the facilities there will be ample parking for both staff and public visitors as well as a garden and administrative area. The completed project is expected to be finished in coming months.
“The Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres, headed by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, is moving forward with the construction of the first Animal Welfare Center, a project that is 70 percent complete and represents a commitment to the protection and care of animals.
“To date, the work is 70 percent complete, which reflects the effort and dedication of all those involved in this important project,” she said in a statement.
“This new building is designed to provide an adequate space that promotes animal welfare, as well as facilities for medical care, rescue and adoption of pets.”
The General Coordinator of Public Works, Ángel Hernández Azueta, said that the construction continues at a good pace, and it is expected that the building will be ready in the next few months, thus offering a new home and opportunities for community animals in need.
