Cancun, Q.R. — The new airport junction at Cancun International has officially surpassed the halfway mark. Governor Mara Lezama says the mega-project is around 55 percent complete and is on schedule to be finished in coming months.
Lezama says the cloverleaf junction project was necessary due to the high volumes of traffic. The overpass system is being expanded from four to six lanes and will be interconnected with other Cancun roadways including Huayacán and Chac Mool Avenues.
“This is how the transformation is with almost 55% progress in our renovated road distributor from the junction to the Cancun International Airport.
“A necessary, modern and high-quality project which generates more jobs and will improve mobility and shorten travel times for our people and visitors,” she posted on social media.
There will also be direct access to the upcoming Maya Train station at Cancun International.
In March, Lezama reported the project at 35 percent. Now in early June, the project is 55 percent finished and still set for completion in October of this year.
