Committee Installed: Quintana Roo declares itself ready for the 2025 Hurricane Season

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The government has officially installed the Hydrometeorological Operational Committee for the 2025 hurricane season. Governor Mara Lezama stressed the important participation of Quintana Roo families through a culture of prevention so they know what to do, how to protect themselves and how to respond to adversity.

Governor indicated that the statewide campaign “Triple A: Attentive, Alert, and Safe” will be implemented with the goal of reinforcing and strengthening the culture of prevention.

The local director of CONAGUA in Quintana Roo, Erika Ramírez Méndez, announced the official forecast for this season, which indicates the formation of between 13 and 17 tropical cyclones in our region, of which 7 to 9 tropical storms are expected, 3 or 4 hurricanes of categories 1 or 2, and 3 to 4 hurricanes of categories 3, 4 or 5.

According to their forecast, Quintana Roo has a 13 percent probability of being affected, ranking second in the nation behind Baja California.

Likewise, CFE Distribution Manager Héctor Raúl Aguilar Valenzuela explained the process for this season which is divided into preliminary actions, evaluation, restoration and reconstruction, to anticipate and act immediately for the benefit of the population.

Brigadier General Fidel Mondragón Rivero, Commander of the 34th Military Zone, announced the scope of the DN-III Plan to assist the population in the event of a hydrometeorological emergency, from its preventive, relief, and recovery phases, always in coordination with state and municipal governments and with the communities.

The Marina relief plan was presented by Admiral Guadalupe Juan José Bernal Méndez, commander of the 5th Naval Region, with experience since Hurricane Gilberto, who highlighted the extensive operation already in place to address this hurricane season in Quintana Roo.

As president of the State Civil Protection Council, Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of continuing to educate citizens on the steps to take before, during and after a tropical storm or hurricane so as to ensure that the culture of prevention, which fortunately remains deeply rooted among the people of Quintana Roo, is not lost. This way, citizens can always overcome natural disasters of this type.

“Today we are permanently establishing this Operating Committee, not as a ceremonial act, but as a demonstration of real commitment, coordinated work, and unity.

“Let us continue strengthening this culture of prevention and shared responsibility. From our homes, from our schools, from our offices, from every community,” she said.

In thanking everyone for their professionalism, Governor Lezama emphasized that the State Government and the State Civil Protection Coordination urge the public to stay informed through official communication channels and follow the Committee’s recommendations.
