Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Summer vacation in Quintana Roo has officially come to an end with the return of students to classes. Local authorities say the summer holidays were incident-free due to successful strategies.
Guillermo Núñez Leal, the Director of State Civil Protection, says preventive patrols were conducted in more than 100 high-traffic tourist spots. Those spots included Holbox, Bacalar, Playa del Carmen, Mahahual, Tulum, Othón P. Blanco, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres and Cancun.
“This was done in coordination with federal, state and municipal agencies, ensuring the safety of tourists, beachgoers, and local residents during the vacation period,” he reported.
“With the aim of safeguarding the safety of both domestic and international vacationers, the State Civil Protection Coordination implemented the 2025 Summer Vacation Safety Operation on July 18th, concluding on September 1st, when thousands of young people returned to school.
“In addition, preventive actions were implemented, such as safety recommendations for beachgoers, reminding them to keep minors under supervision, wear life jackets and stay hydrated to avoid heat exhaustion.

“Tour operators were also constantly reminded not to exceed the number of people allowed on their boats. This effort not only allowed for a peaceful vacation, but also ensured an incident-free vacation, strengthening the confidence of Quintana Roo families in the measures implemented,” he explained.

Guillermo Núñez Leal, Director de la Coordinación Estatal de Protección Civil, emphasized that the coordinated work of security institutions such as the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR), National Guard (GN), Municipal Civil Protection, Municipal Police, Firefighters and Lifeguards was essential in providing security and preventive information to the population, with the goal of avoiding incidents on beaches and roads.

“Without a doubt, the collaboration of emergency services, always promoted by the State Governor, Mara Lezama, was key to ensuring that thousands of tourists could enjoy peaceful days of rest during this holiday season and, above all, ensuring that they can safely return to enjoy the region on their next vacation.”

Núñez Leal noted that Quintana Roo welcomed more than 907,000 international travelers in the first half of the year.
