Cancun, Q.R. — An LP gas tank explosion inside a Cancun home has left four in critical condition and one teen dead. Emergency services located the teen inside the house after extinguishing the fire Tuesday night.

Fire trucks and Civil Protection personnel rushed to a private home in SM 219 in response to 8:00 p.m. reports of a gas explosion. At the scene, emergency personnel found four people with serious burns.
All four are reported to be in critical condition, suffering second and third degree burns. One of the four is said to be a 15 year old.
The accident happened inside a private home on Tabasco Avenue and 62th Street where adults inside the house were cooking. In a flash, their kitchen exploded, leaving the two men and two women with severe burns.
The fire spread fast to the rest of the house.
Cancun firemen worked to extinguish the fire which ended up consuming the entire house. During a post-fire tour, a 16 year old teen was found under a bed. It is believed the teen hide under the bed for cover after the explosion and became trapped by flames.
“Our Civil Protection team, in coordination with the Cancun Fire Department, responded immediately to a house fire in SM 219,” Civil Protection reported in a briefing Tuesday night.

“Operational personnel and paramedics provided support in emergency response, risk assessment, and securing the area. As a result of the incident, four people were transported for medical attention. Sadly, one death was confirmed.
“The relevant authorities are continuing their investigation to clarify the facts.”

According to initial reports, the fire was allegedly caused by a gas leak, which combined with gunpowder stored at the location, exploded.
