Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun is set to receive one of the largest investments in the nautical sector in the last 30 years. Investors are looking to build a shipyard to meet the local nautical demand.
Francisco Fernández, President of the Quintana Roo Nautical Association, says the top-tier shipyard is a project that continues to move forward. According to Fernández, investors have already signed contracts for the land where construction will take place.
This type of infrastructure is not available in the region despite the high nautical activity in the area. He says there are over 23,000 boats coexisting in the Nichupté lagoon alone, yet, this type of infrastructure has not been developed.
He reported that this type of nautical infrastructure will reduce maintenance costs and expand nautical services into Florida and Central America.
The new shipyard would also allow the arrival of more vessels, allowing for a significant rebound.
Fernández says details regarding location, investment amounts, and characteristics of the project will be provided in an official announcement from the investment group.
He says in the meantime, the Cancun nautical section eagerly anticipates the development of the project and the start of construction, which they are hoping for yet this year.
