Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun reports a successful sea turtle season, counting over 10,000 nests and 1.2 million eggs. Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta highlighted a great season of monitoring and conservation of sea turtles during 2025.
She reported that as more than 1,203,000 eggs were protected thanks to the permanent commitment to caring for the environment.
According to the report from the Ecology Department, the Mayor says that during the 2025 sea turtle season, 10,132 nests were protected in 52 corrals thanks to the 714 day and night patrols carried out by municipal staff.

Similarly, she reported that during this same period, 12 training courses were given to 2,735 people, including security agents, lifeguards and volunteers, in addition to 53 talks where 841 people learned to care for the ecosystem.
Fernando Haro Salinas, the Cancun Director of Ecology, highlighted that in the First Ordinary Session of the Committee for the Protection and Conservation of Sea Turtles held at the end of November, positive preliminary results were presented.
Among them, he said, were discussions about nesting records, surveillance tours, protection enclosures and educational actions, which have made it possible to guarantee the care and monitoring of this species, as well as strengthen environmental awareness in the community.

According to the city’s count, the 2025 sea turtle season consisted of:
