City of Cancun adds 70 new police units to its security fleet

Cancun, Q.R. — The city of Cancun has added another 70 new police vehicles to its fleet. The city is continuing work to strengthen police response times around Cancun.

Governor Mara Lezama made the announcement Tuesday with Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta. The government delivered 70 new units that will be added to the current security fleet of Cancun.

The new vehicle fleet consists of 40 SUVs for special operations, 20 4×4 pickups for hard-to-reach areas and 10 ATVs, units that will allow for improved mobility, territorial coverage and timely police response in urban and hard-to-reach areas.

The units have six cameras, four external and two internal that allows for facial recognition and a license plate reading. They are also equipped with a rugged, high-performance laptop for immediate access to information from official databases.

Governor Lezama emphasized that since the beginning of her government, “the deep commitment we have to the peace of mind of Cancun families is reaffirmed. To those who go out to work every day, to those who welcome the tourism that sustains the local economy and to those who trust that this government will act with responsibility, honesty, and results.”

She pointed out that security is the primary function of the state, as it is the foundation for freedom, economic development and community life.

“When the state protects people, it also protects social peace, democratic order and trust among citizens. Therefore, ensuring security is not an act of force but an act of public responsibility.

“Iit is the inalienable obligation to prevent crime, enforce the law, and ensure that every person can live, work and move about with dignity and peace of mind,” added Mara Lezama.

“Every peso of the people’s money is returned to the people transformed into security, order and confidence,” the Governor stated, affirming that this investment responds to the growth of Cancun and its tourist vocation.

The Governor also recognized the work of the police officers, highlighting their courage and commitment, and assured them that they now have better tools to carry out their mission with dignity and responsibility.

The new police units are outfitted with cameras and laptops connected to the command centres of Cancun February 3, 2026.

Mayor Ana Paty Peralta stated that they are working in a coordinated manner on the peacebuilding strategy. She added that the new patrol vehicles are equipped with tools to protect citizens, including smart equipment and systems interconnected to the C2 and C5 command centers.
