Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta says two CFE substations will be installed before the start of the hot weather. She says both substations will be located in the southern region of the city where blackouts occur the most.

She made the announcement Thursday, noting construction of the stations is set to begin in about three weeks. The two CFE substations will provide additional power during the hot weather, helping to unburden the overload on area’s the electric grid.
Peralta said that site visits have already been conducted with CFE personnel to determine the most viable locations for the two facilities.
Mayor Peralta says the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) substations will be temporary and located on Huayacán Avenue and in Cielo Nuevo, city areas prone to blackouts.

“These temporary substations are necessary to prevent the overloading of transformers which, when combined with high temperatures and high consumption, is the main cause of service interruptions,” she said.
The temporary installation of the substations will be designed to meet the immediate demand of the upcoming 2026 hot summer months, however, the definitive project for a larger capacity substation, scheduled for 2027, is being developed.
