Chetumal will add over 600 new surveillance cameras this year

Chetumal, Q.R. — The city of Chetumal is expanding security surveillance cameras from 80 to over 600. The announcement was made by Governor Mara Lezama during the recent launch of the new command centre.

With the formal launch of the new Command and Control Center (C2) in Chetumal, Governor Lezama said this year, the city will expand it security coverage. Cameras will be increased from the 80 at the beginning of her administration to 676.

Lezama added that the state government will contribute an additional 60 to the municipality, with the goal of working together to build peace and provide 24/7 surveillance.

At the C2 facilities and accompanied by the Mayor Yensunni Martínez Hernández, Lezama reported that these cameras will be installed along streets, parks, shopping and centres.

“The goal is to prevent crime and, should one be committed, to act immediately. We have an analysis unit that tracks crime rates and we work jointly with the Executive Secretariat of the State Citizen Security System, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the federal government of course with Secretary Omar García Harfuch, with our Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, President Claudia Sheinbaum and also with the municipality,” she explained.

Together with the head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security, Julio César Gómez Torres, Governor Lezama emphasized that today, all municipalities have a C2 Control Center.

“That’s what a different way of governing is all about, this profound transformation: fulfilling promises. The goal is safety, working together to build peace and maintain vigilance every day,” she added.
