Chetumal judge hands down 25 year sentences for politically motivated murder

Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal judge has handed down a 25 year prison sentence for a 2024 city murder that was politically motivated. Police say two men have been sentenced to life for their role in the stabbing death of a Chetumal man.

The head of the State Attorney General (FGE), Raciel López Salazar, said the men were each sentenced for their responsibility in the crime of aggravated homicide.

“The events for which Edwin Gustavo Juárez Borges, alias “Bobitas,” and Fredy Ismael Tamay Salazar, alias “Topo,” earned them prison sentences occurred on March 21, 2024, when Fredy Ismael went to the victim’s home, located in the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood, and called the now-deceased man outside.

“The objective of luring him outside the house was to distract him, while Edwin Gustavo stealthily approached and stabbed him in the back and chest, causing internal bleeding that led to his death.

“Afterward, the now-convicted individuals went to an abandoned hotel on Marciano Street, where they left a red Chevrolet Aveo and then fled the scene,” he explained.

López Salazar said the motive for the murder was related to political issues, as the victim was a member of a political party.
