Chetumal, Q.R. — A Chetumal doctor has been ordered to remain in the country as part of his pre-trial conditions. Pedro “N” has been charged with injuries for failing to report an after-surgery incident that occurred in August of 2023.
During the August 2023 surgery, the doctor is alleged to have left a surgical instrument inside the male patient. An X-ray revealed the left-behind instrument, however, according to an FGE statement, the doctor failed to report it.
In a statement, the State Attorney General (FGE) said Pedro “N” will go to trial “for acts possibly constituting the crime of injury and professional and technical responsibility to the detriment of a male victim of reserved identity.”
The Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported that “on August 30, 2023, the accused performed a surgical intervention in the emergency area of a hospital in Chetumal and once it was finished, a surgical object was not located.
“He possibly did not report or make a medical note to notify said situation, a fact before which radiological studies were carried out to locate said instrument inside the victim.”
The patient filed an FGE complain against the doctor. The agency began an investigation in which it gathered the evidence that allowed it to be brought to court and in a hearing, after the respective argument between the parties, a judge ordered Pedro “N” to be prosecuted for acts possibly constituting the crime of injury and professional and technical liability.
“The judge also imposed a precautionary measure on him not to leave the country, in accordance with the provisions of the National Code of Criminal Procedure,” the FGE stated.
