CFE says it will improve Quintana Roo’s transmission network prior to hot season

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The CFE says the transmission network in Quintana Roo will be strengthened in preparation for the summer of 2025. On Tuesday, the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) said the state’s electrical network will be improved prior to the arrival of the hot season.

During the March 4 Board of Directors of the Federal Electricity Commission meeting chaired by the Undersecretary of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy, José Antonio Rojas Nieto, several developing strategic projects were approved.

While a majority of those projects involved generation and distribution projects in other states, the CFE did detail one project planned for Quintana Roo. That planned project involves the installation of capacitor banks in seven northern substations. These capacitor banks will store and releases energy to improve the efficiency of the state’s electrical system.

“In preparation for increased demand during the summer of 2025, capacitor banks will be installed in seven substations in northern Quintana Roo with an investment of 194.39 million pesos.

“In addition, a three-phase transformer will be moved from Saltillo, Coahuila, to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo. The move required an investment of 49.37 mdp,” they reported.

Besides saying “in preparation for the summer of 2025,” the CFE did not provide a timeline as to when the capacitor banks will be installed or whether it will affect the state’s power supply during installation.
