Chetumal, Q. R. — A local deputy has expressed frustration at the lack of CFE attention being given to citizen complaints, especially in the south. Deputy Ángel Álvarez Cervera of the Quintana Roo Congress expressed his frustration at the lack of willingness of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to address citizen complaints.
According to the legislator, it took more than two months for the superintendent of the state-owned company, Manuel Castañeda, to agree to a meeting to address the complaints.
To date, the only solution offered by the electric company will be old pole replacement in the Emiliano Zapata ejido of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Those poles that support the electric lines are reported to be decades old.
Work will also be done in the town of Dos Aguadas located on the border between Quintana Roo and Campeche, where residents are facing not only power failures, but a lack of water to their homes since the water pumps rely on power.
CFE has requested the support of rural communities to clean the vegetation areas under the transmission lines, noting that 80 percent of the electricial problems are vegetation related.
The company says the removal of vegetation should be finished by the end of the year, however, the infrastructure repairs will not be made until sometime in 2025.
Earlier this week, personnel did recalibrate a medium-voltage line on Francisco I. Madero Avenue in Chetumal after months of residential complaints.
