Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — on Monday, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde said CFE trucks had arrived to begin the work of replacing poles in poor condition. Numerous poles in the central island neighborhood simply broke during strong seasonal winds, and in particular, with the arrival of Hurricane Beryl Friday.

Residents of the La Gloria neighborhood took advantage of the CFE presence to ask for their poles to be included in the replacement project.
Residents on Macabi Street snapped shots Monday of several concrete power poles that have deteriorated down to their rebar. Not only do these pole pose a threat to power outages, residents point out that they are also a public hazard.
In a breif note Monday, Mayor Ricalde said “since early in the morning, the CFE has been carrying out work to replace poles in poor condition that could represent a danger to the population on Av. Perimetral del Aeropuerto, from the Judicial Branch onwards, in the section from the Aguakán sump to the power plant.
“These actions are part of a plan to replace poles on the Island, actions that are being carried out for the benefit of island families.”
