Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A cruise ship passenger was medically evacuated from Carnival Mardi Gras by Mexican Marina personnel. The specialized medical group set out to meet the ship Thursday for the transfer of a female passenger.

On Friday, the Mexican Navy, acting as Coast Guard, said personnel belonging to the Fifth Naval Region of Isla Mujeres performed the medical evacuation of a female person off the coast.
“The evacuation was carried out after receiving a call for help requesting the medical evacuation of a 36 year old woman from Zimbabwe who had epileptic status, on board the cruise ship Carnival Mardi Gras,” they reported.
“The immediate departure of an MLB-type vessel from the Naval Station for Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance of Isla Mujeres was ordered with specialized rescue personnel on board.

“Upon arriving at the emergency site, approximately five nautical miles (nine kilometers) southeast of Isla Mujeres, the person was examined and medically evacuated. The woman was subsequently transferred to Puerto Juárez where she was received by a private ambulance to be transported to a local hospital for specialized medical care.”
