Cancun woman lured to provide interpretation services victim of extortion

Cancun, Q.R. — Two people accused of luring a woman to a property then demanding a ransom have been charged. Police have identified Maleny del Coral “N” and José de Jesús “N” as the pair responsible for extortion.

According to the police report, on April 25 of this year, the victim went to a ranch to work as an interpreter. Upon arrival, she received a phone call from a man who claimed to belong to a criminal group.

He demanded 200,000 pesos in exchange for allowing her to leave saying “she was in their territory.”

When the victim was unable to pay the requested amount, the alleged extortionists asked for her husband’s contact information. They demanded payment from him as well, threatening to cause physical harm to his wife if he did not comply with their demands.

As a result of these threats, the victim made several bank transfers to accounts provided by the defendants for a total amount of 50,000 pesos.

On Saturday, both Maleny del Coral “N” and José de Jesús “N” were formally charged with extortion. The Cancun judge overseeing the case has ordered both to remain jailed for the duration of their trials.
