Cancun, Riviera Maya celebrates Three Kings Day with free rosca and toys

Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Cities around the state celebrated Three Kings Day with the distribution of sweet bread and free toys. In Cancun, Mayor Ana Paty Peralta shared with hundreds of residents and visitors the longest Rosca de Reyes (bread) the city has had yet.

When put together, the specially decorated sweet bread measured 750 meters long. It was cut up and served to the public in celebration of Día de Reyes Magos (Three Kings Day) at the Malecón Tajamar.

The Mayor highlighted that these activities strengthen unity, promoting peaceful coexistence and preserving the traditions that give identity and a sense of community to Cancun.

“May this rosca that we are sharing today be a symbol of shared happiness, of good wishes, may we never lack the company of our loved ones, the hope for a better future and the strength to build it together,” she said.

While people enjoyed the free bread, the Three Wise Men made their appearance in colorful costumes thrilling the children who took the opportunity to have their picture taken.

Over 700 children were provided with free gifts during the celebration. City personnel delivered free toys to underprivileged kids in several areas of the city. Mayor Ana Paty Peralta, accompanied by the Three Wise Men, delivered toys in several neighborhoods with the objective of bringing happiness, love, hope and above all unity among everyone.

At the event, “Fill a Heart with Magic and Give a Toy, this Three Kings Day 2026”, organized by the Citizen Services Department and the Social Management Coordination, the Mayor gave 750 children a toy and a small piñata to enjoy the day.

Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado also celebrated with a 2.5 kilometer long Rosca de Reyes. The bread was laid out on a table along the city’s Fifth Avenue where Mercado led the Three Kings Day celebration.

She began with the traditional cutting of the Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings’ cake) and the distribution of toys to children, reaffirming her commitment to cultural identity, family unity and the comprehensive development of the municipality.

Before hundreds of local families and visitors, the Mayor highlighted that Playa del Carmen stands out at the state level for keeping its traditions alive, noting that, although the Christmas and New Year celebrations have concluded, the festive spirit remains until Candlemas Day (February 2), as part of the social and cultural essence of the city.

The rosca was made thanks to the joint work of the Vizcaya University, recognized for the training of high-level chefs, as well as educational institutions that joined this effort, including the Technological University (UT).

Mayor Mercado acknowledged the talent, discipline, and commitment of the university students who made this large-scale event possible.

After the event, the Mayor toured Fifth Avenue, where the monumental Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings’ Bread) was placed.

From Fifth Avenue, one of the main tourist corridors of the municipality, Estefanía Mercado highlighted the importance of tourist spaces also being spaces for social interaction.

“It is an honor to share these holidays with the people of Playa del Carmen and at the same time, to welcome those who visit us so they can experience and feel the essence of our traditions.

“Playa del Carmen will continue to thrive stronger than ever, with a government that is accessible and has a clear direction for the future,” she reiterated.

As tradition dictates, it was noted that whoever finds the little figurine (baby Jesus) in the rosca (bread) must share tamales on February 2nd, Candlemas Day, a date that symbolizes the closing of the Christmas celebrations.
