Cancun, Q.R. — Emergency services were forced to evacuate a Cancun restaurant Monday due to a kitchen fire. Restaurant patrons were forced out into the rain while firemen confirmed the grease fire was no longer a threat.
The incident happened Monday inside a restaurant in Plaza Cumbres on Colosio Boulevard. Firemen were called to the scene when an extraction system began to smoke.
By the time firemen arrived, kitchen staff had the fire under control. Emergency services still evacuated the restaurant and performed inspections to ensure the fire was completely out. In a statement, Cancun firemen said the incident was caused by grease buildup in the hood outlet.
“A report was received via C5 regarding a fire at a business located in Plaza Cumbres, on Blvd. Colosio, specifically at the restaurant. Upon arrival, the fire had already been brought under control by establishment staff, who responded promptly after detecting smoke coming from the extraction chimney system.
“According to the information provided, the incident was caused by grease buildup at the hood outlet, which was extinguished with a fire extinguisher.
