Cancun, Q.R. — Three days of strong winds have kept Cancun lifeguards busy. On Friday alone, lifeguards performed four water rescues off different public beaches.
Swimmers have been entering the sea despite red flag notices. According to Cancun Civil Protection, people were being swept out by the strong rip currents after ignoring those red flags and warnings from lifeguards.
The water rescues included both adults and children. Only one person, an adult man, was returned to the beach completely exhausted and left to recover.
Municipal authorities say that while there were four water rescues on Friday, everyone pulled from the water was medically evaluated and found to be okay and that no hospital transfers were required.

“Water Rescues on Our Beaches,” Protección Civil Cancún reported Friday. “Our lifeguards carried out four water rescues at Playa Delfines and Playa Gaviota Azul, where adults and children were swept away by rip currents after ignoring warnings and beach signage.
“All those rescued were assessed on site and only reported fatigue; no medical transport was required.
“We reiterate to the public and visitors the importance of respecting the lifeguards’ instructions and beach flags, as these are essential to preventing accidents and saving lives.”
