Cancun, Q.R. — Lifeguards rescued a young swimmer off Playa Delfines in Cancun Sunday. The young woman was walking in the sea when she was hit by a strong wave that knocked her over.
Lifeguards saw her being dragged out as she struggled to get to her feet. The incident happened Sunday evening in the Cancun Hotel Zone near kilometer 18.
According to the Civil Protection report, lifeguards conducting preventative patrols “observed that the visitor had been struck by a wave which destabilized her and left her trapped in the current.”
Other swimmers reported seeing the young woman try to return to shore, however, she quickly showed signs of exhaustion as she was pulled into deeper water. Lifeguards swam out and returned her to shore.

The young woman was pulled from the water semi-conscious and, once on the sand, was placed in a thermal blanket while medical assistance was requested. She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
