Cancun, Q.R. — Lifeguards carried out the successful rescue of a swimmer in trouble off a Cancun beach Sunday. A young boy was pulled from the sea off Playa Gaviota Azul after being dragged by the current.
Several lifeguards rushed into the water and were able to reach the boy. He was returned to the shore where he was found to be “only tired”. The boy was at the beach with his family Sunday afternoon when he went into the water alone.

Within a few minutes, he was seen being dragged into deep water by the strong rip current. Cancun Civil Protection, who oversees the lifeguards, are warning parents about the importance of keeping an eye on children while at the beach.
In a brief note Sunday, Cancun Civil Protection lifeguards said they carried out a water rescue at Playa Gaviota Azul after a child was swept out to sea by a sudden current.
“Our personnel acted immediately, successfully bringing the child to safety without incident.
“The child was assessed and found to be only tired, so no specialized medical attention was required. The child was released to a family member with appropriate recommendations.
“We reiterate the importance of never leaving children unattended and following the instructions of the lifeguards.”
