Cancun, Q.R. — The first of several city radar traps has been set up along Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard to detect speeding drivers. Cancun Mayor Ana Paty Peralta oversaw the start of the speed reduction operation Monday.
She says police are using laser radar to enforce speed limits on the city’s various avenues and prevent accidents on the roads.
From very early in the morning, the Mayor verified that the elements of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit, with the support of the National Guard, were installed.
She says the radar guns measure the speed at which drivers travel, emphasizing that the speed limit on that artery is 70 km per hour, while inside the city it is 60 km per hour.
In school zones, it is 20 km per hour.

“In these operations we are urging drivers to respect speed limits. There will be no financial penalties, however, we must be aware that respecting this speed limit saves lives,” she said.
He also highlighted that there will be 10 members of the Municipal Transit Directorate for each shift randomly carrying out the operation on different roads.
The city will have the speed traps set up along areas including Kukulcán Boulevard in the Hotel Zone and José López Portillo and Bonampak avenues.
The operation also involved the municipal secretary of Citizen Security and Transit, Jaime Padilla Barrientos, and the director of Municipal Transit, Ezequiel Segovia Góngora.
