Cancun, Q.R. — There were no injuries reported in a central city bus fire in Cancun Monday. The driver was traveling López Portillo Avenue when the rear of his bus began to smoke.
Within minutes, that smoke turned to flames that consumed the interior of the bus. While the driver was able to partially put out the fire himself, city firemen were called in to fully extinguish the burning bus.

The Cancun Fire Department reported no injuries in the afternoon incident. The bus, used to transport city workers, was without passengers when the fire happened.
While they did not provide an official cause for the fire, they did mention the importance of “preventative maintenance” on public vehicles.
“Cancun Fire Department personnel responded to a bus fire on López Portillo Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters found a bus that had already been partially extinguished by its owner,” Bomberos Cancun reported Monday.
“They then carried out firefighting and cooling operations to prevent the fire from reigniting.
“No injuries were reported.
“The fire caused damage to part of the interior of the bus, including seats, the electrical system, and windows.
“Firefighters also conducted a preventative inspection of a nearby business following a report of possible smoke damage, and determined there were no risks at the location.

“We remind everyone of the importance of performing preventative maintenance on public transportation vehicles and reporting any emergency to 911.”
